Good Friday at Avalon Raceway saw the inaugural running of the Norm and Hazel Drew Memorial with Moorfoot , O'Shannassy and Lock cleaning up . Another large car count was on hand for this Easter Special event . Track was again smooth and fast which made for racey heat action. Novice B had three young guns again showing that all these laps are paying off and there starting to get on the pace. Hudson Moorfoot was a stand out and has progressed rapidly , Leah Balcombe has improved each time she goes out on the track and Cody Charge took a win in heat three showing he has what it takes to match it with them . Hudson Moorfoot took his first final win and was excited to do a victory lap with the Chequed flag.
Novice A had Jamie Balcombe on the gas straight up with a couple of heat wins , then Rusty Ponting followed suit with the other two heat wins . The Final saw Koby O,Shannassy start outside pole and clear out from the field . Rusty Ponting got underneath half race but Koby had the speed and the top grove working well and went on to get his first Feature win to a cheering crowd. Arthur Hutchinson continued his good form with a solid third . Jacko Peachey had engine issues in his heats and struggled with getting any speed in the final . Jake Bradley had his first run in Novice A and done really well . Drove straight and steady and will improve quickly in the A class . Bailey Hutchinson was another driver who is racing straight and steady and getting some good laps under his belt . 120cc open had another new comer in Aston Rodriguez and he straight up impressed everyone . Hard on the gas from heat one he showed he was ready to mix it with the seasoned drivers . Blake and Chelsea Balcombe along with Jayden Lock and Aston all did passing shots in the heats and you could throw a blanket over them for some close racing. Being Easter Friday , Jayden Lock was to take the chocolates in the final from a hard charging Blake Balcombe , Aston got his first podium in third with Chelsea chasing the boys home for fourth. 160cc Class saw PJ Matheson take to the track again for some hot lap sessions and really showed how fast these cars can go . We are looking for more kids aged 11 to 16 so if your interested come down and talk to Sean Matheson about racing in the 160cc class The afternoon presentations where in the main pits with sprint car super stars Steven Lines and Jamie Veal on hand to hand out the Norm and Hazel Drew Memorial trophies to all the drivers on the podium stand . All cars where on display in the pits for a come and meet the kids session and photos . The next surprise was during the Sprintcar interval , as all the kids got to throw out Easter eggs to the crowd from inside the race track while a display of Quarter Midgets on the back of a truck did a lap of the venue. The Junior Quarter Midgets of Victoria would like to thank the event coordinator Rachel Bradley for making all this happen and possible and the Drew Family for all there continued support of these little racers.
