Luckett Inspired by Role Models

It’s inspiration that has given Junior Quarter Midgets racer Dakota Luckett her determination to join the 160cc class this season, with the young lady striving to follow in the tyre tracks of her role models.

Having so far contested half-a-dozen race meetings at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway in her debut season, Luckett’s confidence in being able to hold her own against the boys steadily continues to grow and is further increased by seeing fellow female drivers excel in their fields against some of the best drivers in both Australia and America.
The 11-year-old racer from Werribee in Melbourne’s south-west suburbs strongly admires and looks up to her more experienced counterparts, such as South Australian Sprintcar driver Lisa Walker and American racer Harli White, who are proving that they have what it takes to remain competitive in a somewhat male dominated sport.

With her grandfather Allen Luckett having had 20 years of experience racing SDAV Hot Rods, Luckett has grown up with an innate passion for speedway racing, with the sport having already taught her a number of important life lessons, such as her ability to follow her dreams, regardless of her gender.

Keen for more seat time, Luckett will continue to take as much valuable experience on board as possible throughout the remainder of the 2016-17 season, as well as continuing to gain added confidence from her talented idols, in order to achieve her goal of one day racing Formula 500s.

Luckett would like to thank the following sponsors for their valued support throughout the 2016-17 season: Luctrans Pty Ltd, Purrfect Cool Auto Air, Signs Sell, Alabakis Auto Repairs, Lucas Oil, Mega Auto Parts, The Pizza Box – Norlane. She would also like to give special thanks to her stepdad Steve for all of the hours in the shed spent working on the car, her mum Debbie, and her grandparents Allen and June Luckett, along with fellow Junior Quarter Midget parents, Graham, Matt, Sean and Rob, for all of their help.

To find out more about Luckett and her team, LIKE them on Facebook by searching Dakota Luckett Racing – JQM 11.

A Junior Quarter Midget is a quarter scale version of an actual open wheel midget (Speedcar) which is open to race for kids between five and 16 years of age. The cars are built around a tubular chromoly frame including ant-intrusion bars and kick-outs to stop wheel interference. All vehicles are fully suspended with coil over racing shock absorbers.

The vehicle bodies consist of fibreglass and aluminium and the cars are powered by Honda GX120 or GX160 single cylinder air-cooled 4 cycle engines providing 4.5-5.5 horsepower in standard configuration. The emphasis in Quarter Midget Racing is on participation and skill building and as such, the JQMA has a strict sealed, standard motor policy.
