Good Friday at Avalon Raceway saw the inaugural running of the Norm and Hazel Drew Memorial with Moorfoot , O'Shannassy and Lock cleaning up .
Another large car count was on hand for this Easter Special event . Track was again smooth and fast which made for racey heat action.

14 kids took the track this week end for the time honored Australian Quarter Midget Grand Prix . Track prep was again the talking point with a superb track for fast and wide racing . 4 heats for the three classes , Novice B had Jake Bradley , Leah Balcombe and Hudson Moorfoot. All raced cleanly and put in some good laps . Jake again took a clean sweep of the heats . Novice A saw 7 cars take to the track with Arthur Hutchinson and Rusty Ponting both taking two heat wins . Stand outs where Koby O'Shannassy and Jacko Peachey who both showed improved speed . New comer Jay Parkinson also got into the mix of it , having some good battles with Jamie Balcombe . Bailey Hutchinson again showed he's got it with some good passing on the high line . This Easter Good Friday , Avalon Raceway will remember it origins by running the inaugural Norm & Hazel Drew Memorial for the Junior Quarter Midgets.
Norm and Hazel , together with Norms brother Doug and Dot , built Avalon Raceway in 1976 and still today it is run by the Drew family. The current Drew family would like to remember what there family started all them years ago , but also remember that the future of the speedway is in its junior divisions and supporting these little racers. Big being the new track is big and fast , and better numbers turned up for round 11 being 11 cars. With heat racing in the after noon , a quick water of the track and heat racing action was on . The track straight away was two or three lanes wide and super smooth. The novice cars all seemed to get faster and faster every time they hit the track . Novice B racer Hudson Moorfoot was a prime example and was going twice as fast by heat 4 and looked like he could be mixing it with the Novice A group. This Saturday , Laang Speedway will be hosting Round 11 of the Victorian Junior Quarter Midget Series .
With a dozen cars nominated , it will be there first run at Laang for some of our new drivers . With heat racing from 1pm till 4 pm , and finals under light it's going to be exciting racing for the kids. So come and support them this Saturday after noon / evening at Laang Speedway . In pits by 12 noon Scrutineering 12 noon to 12.30 Drivers briefing 12.45 Racing from 1pm Avalon little raceway had 12 drivers turn up for round 6 of the Victorian Junior Quarter Midget Series. The Drew family spent the morning working on the track and the result was a fast, multi laned race track. With practice done and heat draws completed it was time for 4 rounds of heats for the Novice 120cc A , B,s and 120cc open. Novice B,s saw Jake Bradley step it up and take all four hear wins, much to the delight of his home crowd family on the hill, with Leah Balcombe and Hudson Moorfoot getting there first look at the track. Novice A was a mixed bag for heat race winners including first time starter Jamie Balcombe getting his first heat win in only his very first meeting at Avalon. With 6 car heats the racing was fast and at times three wide. |
