Junior Quarter Midgets Victoria is a family motor sport designed specifically for children aged 5 to 16 years. Competitors race on oval tracks approximately 1/20th of a mile in length in specially prepared quarter midget cars with rules and safety procedures designed to create a safe and competitive environment. The JQMV provides an environment that is about children and family growing together. Not only will kids learn valuable skills and sportsmanship, they will also make new friends – as will Mum and Dad!
A quarter midget is a 1/4 scale version of an actual open wheel midget (speedcar). The cars are built around chrom-moly tubular frame including anti intrusion bars and kick-outs to stop wheel interference. All vehicles are fully suspended with coli over racing shock absorbers. Vehicle bodies consist of fibreglass and aluminium, powered by Honda GX120 or GX160 single cylinder, air-cooled 4 cycle engines providing 4.5 – 5.5 horsepower in standard configuration. The quarter midget emphasis is on participation and skill building. As such, the JQMV has a strict sealed, standard policy.
