The weather sure didn’t beat us last Sunday with the running of Round One of Tornado Series at Avalon Junior Quarter Midget Track!! Our drivers certainly put on an excellent days racing to one and all as I’ve heard from our committee members, unfortunately I wasn’t able to stay for the racing so this will only be a short write up this week which I do apologise for..
Final placing’s for the day were:- Sunday certainly provided some very close and fast racing by all competitors with 27 Drivers on the day it was just outstanding for our first meeting of season 2017/18..
We would like to welcome some more new drivers and their families to our club which is awesome, being Jack and Tyson Balcombe, Chevette and Chase Muir and Levi Milburn.. With 11 race meetings under their belt, the season has now come to a close for Junior Quarter Midgets Victoria, with 2016-17 producing consistent solid car counts and a number of new competitors.
Contesting the majority of shows Geelong’s Avalon Raceway, the first of which was back in November, the season got off to a great start, with a number of drivers delivering positive performances which they would continue to produce throughout upcoming race meetings. Well done to all our racers on a successful, if not eventful, final race day of the season at Laang Speedway on Saturday!
There was some excellent battles across all classes, none more so than the Open 120 kids battling it out for the Vic Title! After some mixed results in the heats, and a little controversy in the final, it was Blake Balcombe that kept clear of most of the trouble and drove away to a well earned feature win! Jayden Lock stayed strong to claim second, while Chelsea Balcombe made it a brother and sister podium finish taking out third place. The 160 class unfortunately didn't have the numbers to complete their Vic Title, but it didn't make for disappointing racing! With Jemma Woods driving as a rookie, each of the three competitors chalked up a heat win on the day. Declan Robinson eventually winning ahead of a determined Dakota Lucket and Jemma. The Novice A class again saw some competitive driving with some good passing moves throughout the day. After starting the final in pole, Callan Atkinson held off a hard pushing Riley Taylor and Jamie Balcombe who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Not to be outdone, we saw some fast driving and even a rollover in the Novice B class! With the fastest drivers finding their way to the front in the final, Holly Hutchison saw off the challenge from a quick Jed Moorfoot in 2nd and Leah Balcombe rounding out the podium. Well done again to all our little racers on a fantastic season and final day of racing!! Well what do I say, another excellent turn out of cars for another close nail biting event at Avalon Raceway with also a couple of roll overs by Jacko Peachey and Rowdy Andretta which boys escaped unhurt thank god, special thanks to our medical crew who quickly checked them both and all was fine..

Novice A Had a record number of competitors of 10 for this season and it equated to exciting racing from the first heat Jake,Hudson,Mallacai,Riley,Leah,Callan,Logan,Talon,Jamie and Miller were fighting hard for the position with a few Incidents throughout the day,the final was no different we saw Riley Taylor take his 1st feature win with Talon Humphrey a close 2nd and Miller Throckmorton right behind in 3rd. 120 Open Class saw Authur,Chelsea,Jayden,Koby and Blake have some real tight racing throughout the heats the final was hottly contested with Arthur Hutchinson running out winner from Jayden Lock and Blake Balcombe in 3rd.
